    Flies , that is .
Float and fly saved the day this morning.
I fished plastics for almost an hour and a half this morning without a gill .
Caught three little green trout that put a bend in my 5’6” St Croix Premier, but the closest I came to catching a gill on plastics was a short striker as I was lifting my jig out of the water .
Then I remembered I had a couple boxes of micro jigs and spider flies in my fishing stool .
In my last thirty minutes Fishing I caught four bluegills .
No monsters , but solid fish .
The float n fly saved the day .

I have certainly seen the day I was looking high and low for a float. I try to keep them handy now .
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along

Pistol Pete flies are the first thing I consistently caught quality bluegill on and on occasion they are still the best option for me.

Nice looking catches. I think I will rig up one of my rods for the float and fly approach.

I got out one of my 7’ ultralights to rig up for my next trip. I can reach out with the longer rod and cover more water with less effort.
I really enjoy the float and fly technique. It’s a more laid back , relaxing way to fish .
    Love watching that bobber disappear.

As you said, gill, float and fly is very relaxing fishing, and really can be deadly.

I went back to the pond this morning armed with my 7’ Daiwa Procyon UL paired with my Daiwa Tatula LT 2000 and 2# P-line .
I spent the entire two hours throwing the float and fly using different flies . The spider flies were the best producer .
I only caught seven and they were on the small side .
Most were caught casting parallel with the bank .
I tried casting just the fly like I had with my 5’ St Croix ULM and same reel , but was unable to get any distance at all .with the shorter SC , I was getting 15-20’ casts with certain flies .
I missed the shorter rod . Even though casts with a 3/4” weighted float were effortless.
A few of the better ones .
