Default Chasing Gill at our Town pond

Beginning today , I’m going post my results from my little short trips to our town pond on this post .
I’ll just add to this each time I go .
I’ll post pictures of what I catch and what I caught them on .
It’ll be a continuous post , rather than making a new one every time I go .

Today , I got to the pond around 4:15 and fished until just before 6:00 .
The weather was sunny and beautiful and the park was full of folks , doing what folks do at a town park .
I’m thinking with this warmer weather , I’m going to have to start getting up and going earlier than I have been and fish the morning when they’re less folks there .
With the crowd, the fishing loses part of its purpose, for me anyways .

My fishing combo today was my older model 5’4” St. Croix Panfish series paired with my newest Daiwa Legalis 1000LT , spooled with 2# P-Line , green mist .
I fished the drop shot with a size 10 candy corn spider over a 1/16 weight .
I was able to get three to hand and had two that felt great until the hook pulled loose . . I’m thinking from the way they were running and pulling drag , they must have been shellcrackers .

Thanks for the ride along and great pics! Looking forward to hearing of your adventures. Your gear combo looked great! I’m getting more time on my Legalis 1000 and I’m liking it a lot. Very smooth.

I think this will be a most interesting thread to follow. Please forgive me if this is posted else where but, would you consider giving us a little more information? Such as, the size of the pond, do you always fish at the same pond, were all of your fish taken at the same spot on a particular day if you do walk the bank a bit? I am looking forward very much to your posts and thank you for making us a part of your fishing trips.

In this thread , I’ll be fishing the same pond .
It’s a fairly shallow , small pond owned by our town . Located in a recreational park that has a 1/2 mile walking track , playgrounds , soccer fields, and basketball/tennis courts .
The pond takes up about a quarter of the park and is a less than five acres .
It has LM bass, bream , and shellcracker.
I take a folding camp stool with me , and about 80% of the time fish in one area . If The area is vacant when I arrive , I usually fish the area around the bridge , both sides and up the bank about 75 feet from the bridge .
If I don’t have any luck there , and if I have the time left , I’ll walk around the track to the other side , which is the dam .
The ends of the dam are badly silted in with the center having a little depth to it . Maybe five feet deep in a few areas out from the bank a ways .
Depth was determined by counting down my baits over the years .
The pond is four minutes from my house according to my phone . It’s two miles according to my bike computer .
Fishing is supposed to be for town residents only and is supposed to be catch and release as posted on signs around the pond , although I’ve never seen any Enforcement of the rules .
The bridge area is attractive to me and the fish , because it’s the only structure on the pond , has some of the deeper water , and is the location where the park visitors feed the ducks, geese, and turtles in the pond . The gills also enjoy the pellets the kids and adults buy for a quarter out of a vending machine located at the bridge.
Here’s a picture taken on one of my bike trips that shows a good bit of the pond .
The pond has a fountain with aeration to try to help keep the algae down a little .
Grass carp were stocked to control vegetation, but idiots caught them and took them home .
The pond gets a lot of runoff from the roads and parking lots nearby and gets seepage from the septic systems at all of the buildings in the area . Until recently, the entire town was on septic tanks .
That’s about all I can think of for now . Hope this gives you a good idea of the pond I’m fishing.

I live on a 5 acre pond. Lots of good fishing in these types of waters. Thanks for sharing.

Less than 5 acres , it’s probably closer to 3 , just guessing. I can’t find anything on the net that tells the size. They only list the length of the walking track at 1/2 mile and it’s only next to the lake for about 1/2 the way around .
I can’t cast halfway across the widest part with my ultralights .
