Default Like I need another chapter 2

Couldn’t stand it. The sun came out, the wind wasn’t too bad and the temps got up to the mid50’s, but the wind still had a bite to it. In at 4 and out at 5:30. I took the TSS and the lightning rod along but now I don’t know what for. I picked up the new rod and never used anything else. Casting the little jig I showed yesterday I was happy with the distance, even with the wind as it was. I went to the area that I found a good concentration of fish last couple of weeks and wasn’t disappointed. First to visit was this giant, and I had no issues with feeling the strike. Sensitivity is very good.

Wasn’t long that I got another soft take, just like last week, but there was no doubt that he was there. Good bend in the rod and I liked the ability to control himName: E2E04BB9-4C69-4C1E-9109-EA07D5851F64.jpg

I got a few more small gills and had a good fight but he said goodbye, again, without being seen. Sun now working on the treetops I moved on a little and was glad to have a couple of more gills get interested in the little bug I tied, then came the thump with authority. Not to be outdone by any of the others I caught today he had to do a few circles before he went in the net.

Now it was cooling down some and I’m noticing the bite in the wind more. A cast up to the edge of the weed line, couple of turns on the reel and thump! Another nice crappie that liked my jig just fine.

Everybody went back in the pool and I made a few more casts before my common sense wouldn’t shut up and I had to go put the boat in the yard while it was still light out. A quick trip and a smile on my face, I give the new rod the thumbs up seal of approval. Thanks for all the interest and following along. Like Steve said, I was like a kid at Christmas. I was so excited when I left that forgot a pair of gloves. Stay warm and get out when you can, hope to see you when you do. Til then……..Skeet.

Glad that rod worked out good for you. Looks good too! Seems like a pretty decent day on the water.

Nice post and congrats on the maiden of your new rod. Many new adventures await. One word of caution - don’t let your daughter fish it!

Good report we got above freezing today but with that old cold North wind did bite. I do like the looks of that new rod but the jig was the star of the show.

It’s a rabbit hole Jack, but kept in perspective it’s a fun hobby. I built some when I was half my age, very utilitarian, but I was getting good blanks from a shop in Orlando. TJ Stallings from TTI Blakemore's dad, that goes back a minute. I was buying Lamiglas blanks for $5 and using Fuji slip on grips. Super simple. But when you find a blank that does exactly what you want, you smile every time you pick it up. Holler if I can help or you need support to talk you out of it.

I built a med heavy spinning rod for flounder years ago. It was a pleasure to use. Now it takes the occasional catfish. Thanks. It may be a summer thing when it is too hot to fish
