    Default Like I needed another

We all have enough rods and reels for several normal (?) people. I made a few stops today and one was at Mudhole in Oviedo. I needed a few things and it was busy, normal for a rainy Saturday. So while I waited I noticed a rod on the counter and asked if I could look. I shouldn’t have done that. Very light 5’ spinning rod with high standing frames on the guides and a short handle that resembles and ice rod. Some rattlesnake skin looking stuff in front of the handle looked OK too. I asked if the gent in front of it had built it, and he said it was a display that one of the guys had built. I began to get interested right there. I called the builders name and held up the rod and rubbed my fingers together as if to ask how much. He threw a number at me and I said I didn’t like it that much. He said let me think about it. Long story short, I got a few bills out of my wallet, handed them to him and asked if that would do it. He counted and said yes. I can’t wait to get it wet but the weather has to settle down first. It balances directly under the spool of the President 20 that I have for the moment. I looked through what I had for a jig that might do well but everything was too heavy and I tied this one with a little of my dogs hair to make it buggy looking. Here’s a few pics with bad light and I’ll take some if I ever see the sun again. Thanks for sharing my excitement, hope y’all are warm and healthy.Name: 0493E243-9E11-4FF8-AD61-CACA28282D22.jpg

Unique looking handle on that one . That should make a five footer fish longer I would think .
    Nice looking bug too.
Look forward to a review of both ?

Interesting rod for sure. How did they do the snakeskin pattern? Sticker, paint? Dog hair jig…. Pretty cool.

Dave, I saw some that another customer was buying and it looks to me like a soft, smooth cleaned piece of hide but of that I’m not sure. Very supple and easy to flex. I’ve never worked with it and I’ve looked at the rod and can’t see a seam so I’m not sure that mine isn’t fake and made like a shrink wrap tubing and it been epoxied over. If I find out different I’ll let you know.

Also, Thanks Randy. Probably not what you’re used to seeing but far lighter than anything I own or have handles. They didn’t know for sure who made the blank but they think it’s a Phoenix from the pattern on the blank. Also my first with these small ring high standing guides and micro guides toward the tip. I’m looking forward to it and hope it will take the punishment of where I fish.

It needs to be called the Viper. Everything it strikes is going to get caught. Can't wait for a report.
