    Default New bluegill lures.

The Japanese have been using assist hooks on hard lures for decades. Assist hooks really work well on hard baits. I have some JDM vibration baits with assist hooks and they are fantastic but they are 3 gram and 3.5 gram respectively. I have some of the Major Craft Nano Aji metal on the way that are 1.5 gram and 2 gram. These should work great on shell cracker and bluegill…..deep or shallow. While you can’t see it in the pic the body has a concave area on one side and convex on the other. They will flutter as they fall. These might even work for trout. Now if my waters would calm down so I could fish all would be good.

    Regards

Great colors. What is an assist hook? What is the concept?

Assist hooks are connected by using thread…..in this case the thread is Kevlar. Since the hook is not fixed to the lure it is harder for the fish to use the weight of the lure to shake the hook. Assist hooks are deadly sharp. In my research it appears walleye guys in the USA are already using these lures and they are also reportedly catching a lot of crappie. Australians….Brits…..are catching a lot of fish with these also.

    Different concept but looks effective.

Yes, interesting. I hadn’t heard of assist hooks before. Nice looking spoons and the rings look very good quality and robust. Thanks for the pics and info. Looking forward to your trout adventures this year since you loaded up for stream/river fishing.

I would think those would be some great lures for throwing on a BFS outfit .

These are not my first lures with this type hook. I’ve been using ZX 30 and Magbite McFly for a while now. But they are at 3 grams…..the McFly is great for deep water bluegill but the ZX 30 is a blade bait. Not really the profile for bluegill….works great on KY bass and white bass though. The Aji Nano is quite small in profile…..and for those who may be considering them they also come in .6 gram and 1 gram.

Here are some I googled up that are pretty small too. Don't know what their weight is in the metric system. Name: Screenshot_20220112-201809_Amazon%20Shopping.jpg
