    Default Too Windy for me

The Temperature today is going to make it up to my cutoff temp of 50 degrees today , but the wind is going to keep me home . Actually, if it’s not windy I can handle it down to about 45-46 .
Wind , right now is 14mph with gust over 20 .
When my hands get cold , I lose feeling in them and I have a tough time tying on my hooks .
A few more degrees (about 5) and I’d go and float my jigs . But today , I wanted to fish the dropshot and with that kind of wind I lose the feel of what’s going on with my baits .
I know a lot of you guys would think 50 was a heat wave , but it’s what you get used to and what your arthritis can handle once you get a few years on you .
The wind is supposed to die down tonight, and tomorrow, so I can hopefully can get out then .

I feel your pain. I have set my cutoff at 40 to 45 but has to be light wind. The last few times I have been out it has been nothing but wind! Not only does the wind and cold hurt my joints but it makes me to upset to enjoy the day... too much work keeping boat in a place to fish. Thats just me and all the young'uns can laugh if they want... will be their day someday. .

There’s been a lot of days I’ve left the boat at home because of the wind . Hard to enjoy a day of constant trolling motor wind control. And I refuse to pay more a trolling motor with spot lock than what I have in my boat/trailer.

You guys are dead on about the hassle windy days can be on us geezers and Mstr Dan you are right about the young'uns laughing at us but as you said "will be their day someday'!
Just think back a few years (Well maybe more than a few) when we would fish in all kind of weather. Didn't matter what Mother Nature Brought, we went fishin! Now all us "young'uns" are having our day! And they will too.
My cut off is 50 degrees unless I've got the itch too bad to control it and I make exceptions. Usually I'm sorry I made those exceptions and promise not to do it again....until I do.
    Happy Hooking!

I haven’t fished really cold temps in a few years. A friend and I would go when temps were in the mid to upper 20’s, but we knew two things before we left. The wind was flat calm and we wouldn’t last more than three hours tops. And it worked well many times. If one of us got uncomfortable we spoke up and the other never questioned it, off we went. And fellas, we had some excellent days. The surprise days when it stayed nice and the temps rose, we got to stay longer. Where I now live the temps usually stay pretty good, but the wind gives me a hard time much more than when I had my bass boat. It fought the wind very well. The flat bottoms I now have send me home early a lot, or keep me home period. I’ve done some hard work in my life and Arthur is popping up here and there but mostly manageable. That will progress and I’ll be in the same boat as you guys. And just to clarify, given the choice I’d be dealing with lower temps just like y’all. My butt may be in Florida but my heart is in Tennessee. I miss it every day.

Years ago , it couldn’t get cold enough to keep me from going fishing.
I remember one year I drove up to Morgan Falls dam on the other side of Atlanta , the next day after the thaw from a snow we had . There was still snow on the ground and the temps were in the 20’s . It was cold enough that I had to clear the ice from my rod guides every other cast .
One of the local patrol pulled within 50 yards of me , as close as he could get his car , rolled the window down , shook his head , rolled the window back up and drove off . Must have thought I was crazy .
I did catch a couple of small trout that day .
Hasn’t been ten years ago , a buddy from church and I went to a local reservoir and the south shore was frozen up . Ice was a solid sheet a couple of inches thick . But the north side where the sun hit everyday was open . I caught a couple nice crappie that day and hooked something I couldn’t turn on 4# line . It wrapped me on a couple of reeds and broke off . Most likely a pre spawn mama bass .
But my body just can’t handle it anymore. I can handle the cold , if it’s sunny , but Add a little wind and I’m done .
