Stan,
Sure is nice to see members showing pics of their old gear still being put to good use. And yes, that hybrid put up quite a fight on that little 5' Fenwick. One that size are few and far between, at least for myself. Thanks!

They are enjoyable to fish with at times
I bought an old baitcasting reel ( one where the handle spins backwards when you cast) from a yard sale and later picked up a solid glass rod to put it on, after cleaning it up .I spooled it up with some fly reel braid backing and took it out fishing one day . I was determined to catch a bass on that old outfit.
Tried a spinnerbait first , with no luck , then I tied on a medium diver Bomber crankbait and finally caught a small bass about 12-13” .
Fun fishing with vintage classics .
Surely add a lot of inertia to the spool. A backlash on one of those was likely something to remember
The old baitcaster is a JC Higgins , I think made by Shakespeare. The name on the solid glass rod has worn off .
A picture by itself and a pic with an old Johnson Century that I tried to fish with one day but couldn’t hang with it long enough.
I was always a Zebco 33 guy growing up and never took to the Johnson reels although they were supposed to be a better reel . They just always felt awkward to me .
Lots of stuff made under the JC Higgins branding. Nice looking old gear
Here is a old JC Higgins. Attachment 409400
