Crappie Magnet tails seem to do so much better when joined to thicker bodies

This one lake I fished yesterday has miles of pads with open water only 1/3 the surface. Many fishable pads are in 7-9' but most are difficult to fish. Fortunately I found fish in areas other anglers didn't fish or fish with the right lures and presentation because most fish were caught from 12:30 pm until 4 pm long after they left the lake. Good thing - I was getting ready to leave and then decided at the last minute to give one section a go.

As usual, when I find fish, I must work different soft plastic designs after catching a half dozen on one. Having proven that Crappie Magnet single and double tails catch fish, I wanted to confirm which bodies they were melted on to caught fish. Not one failed!
This one used a cut off worm body:

I hadn't cast the Claw in a while and decided why not given the multiple strikes in one area of the lake:

...in fact sunfish and crappie challenged it and lost:

It's such a pleasure catching different species on one lure except the pickerel that cut the line with it still hooked in its mouth.

42 fish in a short time - not bad for a sunny afternoon.

How do you fish those in the pads without getting hung up?

I only fish the edges or open lanes.

How do you melt the plastic?

So that the cut will be smooth and straight, I use a box cutter blade or the razor used to scrape surfaces to cut the parts off other lures.
1. Light a candle.
2. Hold one end over the flame 2 seconds - no more! and then the other right after.
3. With a steady hand I line up the ends making sure the lure will be straight and then hold the two ends together for 3 seconds. The bond is strong but I still smooth the seam with a soldering iron (battery powered).

The lures I've shown are easily reproduced by anyone - especially if you have the parts from stored lures. But some parts come from molds I've bought as well as the liquid plastic to heat in the microwave. This one is from an injection mold which also caught fish yesterday:

Note: Only two jig wts. were used: 1/24 and 1/16 oz. Casting distance was over 35' and accurate.

and it might also be said that "curved " plastics that are not straight anymore can be straightened out on your dash board in Texas during the summer months in a few minutes as well .....

Also for those that are of the epicurean delight in nature , left over pizza in a ziplock will be about the best pizza you ever consumed after about an hour on the dashboard in the wonderful Texas sunshine too .....
