    Default Ending the Weekend Right

Thought I'd try for some topwater Bluegill this evening. So, I strung up this 1.5" Hula Popper on my 7' Shakespeare Micro Series Rod and Piscifun Carbon X 1000 reel with 4# SOS line.

On the first cast something swatted at it and missed. A cast or two later a small bass hit it, jumped and threw it off. Looking good! The fish are active. A few casts later, a Bluegill hit and stuck.

After a few unproductive casts and I moved down the bank a ways. Then this little bass hit it and didn't quit it.

The next cast everything changed. A BIG bass hit it. I could see part of its body when she hit it. Oh boy! Here we go! An ultralight fight. And so it ensued. At one point, I entered the water to keep the line from tangling in a bush. The drag was singing and the rod was bending nicely. But I was slowly gaining ground. Fortunately, the those tiny hooks held and didn't bend. Up to the shore!

Yea, it was a big one. The scale showed a bit over five pounds.

No Bluegill but maybe she had some in her stomach!

Well the adrenaline was pumping by then and some thunderstorms were rumbling nearby. Time to quit. It won't get any better today!

Hope you all had a good weekend.

a hula popper WOW , like Sk aint seen one in years ,cool beans , you might consider a a fly fishing popper style bait for the bream . a real tiny grasshopper or bumblebee imitation might make them bluegill go crazy in the summer ,use a clear casting float to get it out to them

I use a product called a Mini Pop from a small manufacturing lure company in Gaines Pennsylvania. Can't beat them and they are made here in America. Gaines lures and Golden Eye Lures.
