The "fossil" reminds me of something I have seen many times at the new-to-me lake I have been fishing. I see this floating "stuff" big as a softball, even a soccer ball, that looks like it's made of rock but it floats and the waves take it across the surface. It looks a bit similar to what you have. The only explanation I have come up with after inspection is that it might have something to do with nutria or beaver lodge material. There are a lot of nutria on this lake and probably some beavers because there are several what appear to be beaver lodges. I am not aware of nutria building lodges, I thought they just dug burrows. Anyway, this "stuff" looks like it could come from the mud and stick concoction that beavers manufacture when building a lodge. It doesn't seem possible for it to float but it sure does. I was thinking that the plant material and also maybe air bubbles within give it the buoyancy. Then again, I do not know what this stuff is. I have never seen it anywhere else.

not sure what you are seeing , but to be sure humans leave trash all over the place and when the water runs thru there it probably carries some of everything with it . this spot runs for miles right thru the middle of an kinda upper end housing area . there are ponds about every mile or so along this drainage and one of them up on the top end is large , never been that far up , the one I hit is about a mile from where we park and silted in to the point its about a swamp and that is far enough walking in the creek for me

Upon closer inspection, it seems to be a beer bottle.Name: Screenshot_20210710-070658.jpg

Yeah, I think the beer bottle is it. There is never a lack of careless slobs when you are on the water. It is one of the reasons I hate opening day. Every casual slob fisherman is there and no thought to carrying anything out. When the water is low on my home stream it is enough to make you cry. Tires buried so deep you would need a tractor to pull them out. With our recent storms I expect to see a lot of junk washed up over the banks.

Even though it might be nowhere near the ocean it looks like coral to me. Another possibility is a lightning strike hitting the ground hot enough to fuse sand and other rocks together.

might be some kind of fossilized coral , we see lots of nautilus fossils and I mean tons of them and other things like sand dollars and such fossilized in this area . a bit south of us 30 minutes or so is fossil shark tooth heaven as well .

didn't notice it until now , but yes sir it appears to be a beer bottle . not surprising though as the creek has a pretty decent amount of trash build up along the edges . being in an area with houses and streets surrounding it it sort of amazes me there isnt a terribly high amount of trash along the shorelines . there is a who cares attitude in the general population and to make it worse the park folks have trash cans all long the walk paths , you would think folks could put it in the trash can , but why bother right ?
