Nice mix and mess of fish. Is there room in there to use a fly rod? That might up the excitement factor, not that it sounds like you need more!

It looked like it might be a little tight for a fly rod, but boy some poppers might be a blast!

Not very "HOSTly" Capt. Tim...not ONE pic of your sil Rock showin' off his well-tutored skills! Lol You DID allow him guest "1st cast" privileges, right?

Several questions to answer. Yes, all these areas have SOME room for a fly rod. It isn’t wide open and waiting as you can see. And you had better bring your A game for paying attention to all the details as there’s lots of grabby stuff all around. My casting skills are marginal at best, but I can shoot with the best of em, I like to think, and use that primarily.

And yes Doug, I gave him first shot on Saturday, and the gills were taken on Sunday. The crappie we took on Saturday were just in the cooler without ice due to my gotta go attitude on Friday evening caused me to forget the free ice. We went by the office to get some ice after the trip and wound up giving them to one of my coworkers that doesn’t get much time to go. He and I have a trip waiting for scheduling to allow it. And I will also say that Rocky is becoming adept at hitting the mark shooting also. Believe me, he doesn’t wait for me to tell him to get after it.

Slimjim, you both know how and know what to look for when you find the right kind of water. I made a trip to the Econ river a couple of weeks back for some of the great Gill action that it offers. Unless you have a mud motor or airboat, go somewhere else til the water gets back up. I hope you both take a trip outside of your comfort zone and find some.

Thanks for all the good comments everyone, I’m still smiling.

I have to share the winners of the day. The fish were the prize but the little jigs I used performed so much better than what I have been using. It’s tied on a #8 and my favorite 1/43 weight head and red fox squirrel tail hair. The one with the bare head on the right was what I had tied on and the others are variants. Nothing fancy but it did the trick. Hope this helps someone boat a few more. Be careful and good luck.
