    Default Afternoon on the River

Got to slip away and fish the Duck River for a few hours yesterday. Just had to. Temps were in the low 70's with light breeze. Leaves on the water were still a huge problem and water temp was 47 deg with gin clear water making fishing conditions less than favorable. However I had the river to myself and the little Spots were willing. Big fish was a 14" LM and the spots ranged from 13-3/4" down to the little fella in the picture. Caught 13 total and enjoyed my spiritual healing as well! Caught the bass on a variety of lures....Shad Rap, 3" Chartreuse Mr. Twister, and BPS 3" Hellgramite on 1/16 Mushroom jig head. No one combination significantly out fished the others. Lots of fun on light line. One thing I've noticed and it happened twice yesterday....even though the water is clear, when a bass is focused on a lure he looses all sense of his surroundings. Kind of like a buck when chasing a doe...that buck will chase that doe all the way to the courthouse and not care who's watching. Twice I has these little spots attack the Shad Rap at boatside in clear view of myself. Bold little dudes. One other thing....ck out the bellies on these spots. Chunky!

Great report and photos. Yep, looks like the bass have had on the feed bag big time. I think you’re right about focus during the attack. I have tracked bass about to whack a rebel crawdad and they look like a torpedo coming thru the water.

Sounds like a super day, nothing more therapeutic than tossing a line in the water. Congratulations
