So with the hook pointed back at the bait.... I would imagine you would lose fish. Why a single vs a treble?
Maybe they will bite this one……

While trebles will catch more than a single hook, all other things being equal, tons of fish have been caught with a single/sidewash type hooks.

Many think that barbs are important too. I heard a pro bass fisherman say that he changes out the hooks on his crank baits to those with smaller barbs. Why? Better penetration. More fish caught. Sometimes things are more complicated than they first appear.

When only using one single hook the positioning pointing to the rear is correct, if using two single hooks on a lure the front one would be pointing towards the front of lure. I started a thread on Feb. 10 (TREBLES VS. SINGLE) which if you read member replies, will give a lot of excellent reasons for not using trebles for panfish. I hope this helps. Thanks.

    Micanopy,
The more I thought about your question, I thought more of a explanation was needed. I assume you are referring to the lures with the blades on the tail. There was a treble where the single now is and all 3 points were pointed back at the lure. From what I have read, you will hook more with a treble, but you will land more with a single. Those little lures had 2 trebles on them =6 points. Just seemed to be too much. I was changing out trebles on everything I have and thought I would modify a couple for next year. Who knows, they may not work. Sunfish have such small mouths so I figures the singles will be much easier on them.
