longear sunfish are the best of the bream for bait . i way prefer them over the others . when we used to chase the stripers a longear was worth about 4 or 5 bluegill . much friskier and hardier and would telegraph a bite long before it got bit .

Fed over 2 doz. sunfish yesterday with small balls from a slice of bread. Once they hear the plunk they start to swim from different directions to where I'm standing to compete. Crappie and perch ignore the bread and swim away. Water temp is probably in the 40's and doubtful fish will be chasing lures - at least in this small pond which might be different in a few local lakes. Float fishing might be key as well as 1/32 oz jig heads/2lb test line as mentioned in Bassnbrian's recent post about catching fish that way.

Oh well, I hate this time of the year for fishing, but I go anyway.
