It is a lot easier to use a weight forward of the floating head if fishing the bottom.
The weight makes constant contact with the bottom while the head floats along behind.
This rig is quite effective when trolling and can be used casting.

I also have thought about this. seems to me that with line tie at the front of a floating jig head. instead of a somewhat horizontal bait. it would fish nose down tail up.

No , the eyelet is within float. So Carolina rig positioning dependant on line length. You could also tweek the angle by bait wt. And tipped lure or minnow!!!!

Do the jigs have the reverse eye so the hook rides up?

The ones I have made use a # 6 hook.
The bad news is the floating heads available now float with the hook in the down position.

You can make your own using a reverse eye hook and the hook will ride in the up position.
If I use this rig I use a lite bottom bouncer and a 6 to 8 foot leader.
See the posts on this thread on how to.
