Default September trip to the Saint Johns River, Welaka area.

Took my daughter in-laws dad (retired firefighter/paramedic to our Riverbend condo 12-20th and had a great time in thought it rained every day. Fishing and casting for shrimp was slow but ate well. Love the area and people and heading back after the holidays.Name: IMG_1057.jpg

That’s a great area, very diverse. Glad it lived up to your expectations.

Found them close to shore in 3-4 ft of water and in the shadow of brush. Fish with a cork set at 1 1/2 ft number six long shank hook tipped with 1/2 red worms. And keep it moving ever so slowly.

I spent much of my young boyhood fishing there. My Grandparents owned a small cabin on a canal right across from the Oklawaha river mouth back in the '60s. All the shoreline that was wooded back then is now wall-to-wall development now.
