It's All About Timing
Went to my favorite pond again tonight hoping to continue catching them with the Beetle Spin. Made a ton of casts and nary a bite. Changed up to the 1" Berkely Gulp minnow. Same results. Tried a curly tail grub hoping for a bass. Also tried for bass with several top water lures and a finesse worm. Nothing. Finally pulled out the earth worms and put them out there under a bobber. Still nothing. I was about to quit but threw once more as I was seeing activity in the water. The bobber sat there, motionless as it had before. Suddenly, it was under! I almost didn't react, but quickly woke up and set the hook. The result was a good fight on the UL baitcaster with a nice fish.
The next cast I caught another.
The switch had been turned on. Continuing to cast to the same area yielded a catch almost every cast.
This monster was the fish of the night.
That tackle box is about 9 inches long. Even more impressive is the width on that Shellcracker. I though it might be a bass when I was bringing it in. It stayed down in the water and pulled drag several times. What a blast!
Anyway, darkness arrived and it was time to split for dinner. So, that last 30 minutes before sunset was action central. The previous hour, ZERO. I've had that happen many times before at this pond. Sort of forgot over the summer. Might had to adjust my arrival times.

this is often the case in ponds . i know of one that you would swear is fishless until an hour before dark and an hour at first light .
i see bass chase bluegills right out of the water up on the bank together at that pond all the time .
and the numbers of fish in there is mind boggling .....and to make it really cool
there are monster crappie in there as well
i dont know why some spots are like that
we had a discussion yesterday about a spot that from 2 to 4 is always on fire and they quit about an hour or so before dark every day ?
timing does make all the difference

I agree on the timing thing with ponds as well, right before dark and about an hour after daylight. Odd but seemingly true in most areas of the South.
