    This ^^^^

Fish will not fight current if they don't have to. They will sit in slow areas and wait for the food to drift by.
Thanks castingcole thanked you for this post

Yep very good advice... hit those slower moving pockets of water... some rocks and such will provide current breaks and give the fish a place to rest and ambush food...

Just got back today and I did this and it worked well. Lots of coves and big downed trees that held fish.

fish face the current and take prey that often rides with the current .
i never cast anywhere but up stream no matter what i am using as bait and or what presentation .
it often presents a challenge to keep a lure or presentation in the strike zone at the right speed .
but to be sure in lots of spots and with lots of species if you work a bait upstream the fish wont eat it .
prey moving against the current indicates its a tough whatever to try to eat .
the sick ,elderly and young that are the typical forage dont have lots of energy to burn .

Congrats on a nice day. I’m heading out today with the fly rod and topwater. Looking for some smallies and some hatches that will get some risers. Probably not as productive as going below, but the thrill of a topwater take can’t be beat!
