Default Another round of pan fishing in a kayak

Made it back to misquito lake to do more pan fishing. Lots of bass boats running around with a tournament going on this weekend. A lot of them stopped and watch me fish (+/- 10 minutes) to see what I was catching. I told the ones that stopped 2/3" shinners just started showing up in this area this week.

Don't know why but no crappie, usually I catch 3/4 crappie in this are when drop shotting for panfish. Same with the catfish, did get 1 hit that I fought for at least 10 minutes until it went under the kayak and got caught up in the anchor line and broke the 8# braid. That ul setup just didn't have the hp to muscle that big cat around. I've caught up to 24" cat's on the ul setup, had to be pretty big taking line out at will.

Caught a lot of dinks that I tossed back along with keeping a couple that swallowed the #6 hooks I was using.
Ended up with a couple stringers of bluegill and perch.

Ended up with 3 1/2# of filets, yum!!! A couple more trips and the freezer will be setup with panfish for the year. Still want a couple more #'s of catfish and walleye before trout season starts.

Was a great day fishing, pretty much none stop action until I ran out of bait. For me using ul setups in a kayak takes pan fishing to the next level.

Appears you ran into a bunch of pumpkinseeds on this trip. They are a beautiful fish. Great fun in a kayak for sure.

He did have a nice trip. Pumpkins are among the prettiest for sure. Caught a few today and they really stand out.

They make for some good eating, and I hear that the winter perch festivals up in Michigan and Wisconsin are fun events!

I just mark the bags panfish and they typically are a mix of bluegill, perch and crappie. The 3 main inner lakes I fish have all 3 of them. Went out again today back to misquito lake. It was rough, lots of chop which makes fishing with drop shots a bit challenging. Did manage to fill 1 stringer and another bag of panfish filets for the freezer.

Been using drop shots like these lately and crawlers on the #6 hook.

This way there's a chance of catching catfish while going for panfish. Landed a nice cat today and foolishly put him on a metal stringer. Didn't take long for that cat to bend the stringer and get off.
