I'm sure they'd still work. Many lures from the past work as well if not better than many of the newest ones sold. That split tail design I still use with a Beetle Spin overhead spinner.
These guys are 3/4" and 1" split tails that I caught a lot of gill's on back in the early 1970's. The jig heads are from my first Do-it mold and are 1/64oz and 1/80oz collar less round heads. Found them in a old 3700 Plano box. They kind of remind me of some of the baits popular today.

The old lures work as well as ever.
<IMHO> I believe that many of the new lures are made to catch Fisherman not fish.

...oh the smaller jig heads will be perfect for these small plastics I picked online

Anything that catches 'gills catches crappie, perch and bass. Trout Magnets and Crappie Magnets work equally well with the right jig head (right hook size and weight).
Line diameter also makes a big difference. My 2# diameter braid/6lb test is all I need when used with 1/24 oz or 1/16 oz ball head jigs.
When it comes to lure shapes there are 6 major shapes one can count on equally - (the two shapes on the bottom of LVSpinfisher1's post not one of them). Finesse action is key which is why I carry these: a power bail type tail curl tail, claw grub, no-tail grubs, cone tail, thin straight stub tail, Slider type finesse worms, soft sticks wacky rigged or regular, French Fry stick segments with different tails and a flat thin tail added to different grub body designs. None are greater than 3.5" in length/ many less that 1 3/4". Some even cast small tube lures.
The slowest retrieve with pauses should be able to demonstrate the most finesse action. Here are some examples of the above:
The gills around here only peck at the bigger crappie plastic. It wasn't until I dropped down to the smaller Mister twister micro craw and Trout magnet that I started catch them constantly.I wish the bigger crappie stuff would work, so I wouldn't have to keep special ordering everything.
