    Default What say you ?

why was one of the gills purple with a big ear flap and the others just regular native colorations with regular ear flaps ?
you think that one is a copper nose or hybrid of such ?
    what are your thoughts ?

Hi Ketchn, i'm no expert in panfish or such but i've caught enough to say the shape does look like true bluegill however i've also seen many bluegills in other darker color especially black or dark green but not in this shade of bluish/purple. Hope someone else with chime in soon. Nice ketch as always!

Seeing how you're in Texas, you are within the introduced range of the coppernose bluegill. That's what the purple one looks like or at least a mix of the coppernose and native subspecies. The males usually have larger earflaps as well.

Maybe.....nice catch whatever the specie. We have one lake here in TN that the copper nose are in. They mix and they do produce some different colors.
