    Default Trout Magnet Durability

Here is a way to make your trout magnet last a lot longer. I just tied a Do-it WB400 hook keeper on the 1/64 jig. Took about 1 minute max. I do this with a lot of my jig heads I use for plastic baits. Name: 20200730_121009.jpg

Good idea! I put a dab of super glue on the top part of the shank before I pull the jig all the way up the skank. Works good but I have always wondered if fish could detect the smell of the super glue.

I used 6/0 fly thread on this one. On larger jigs I use 3/0 thread.

I think gills and shellcrackers have a strong sense of smell. I've proved it to myself many times. I have pulled a jig fly through a spot and not got a hit. Then I would take take a very small piece of a power Wiggler on my bait and proceed to catch several fish. My bait was visually the same but now had a odor. I've seen this hundreds of times. I am not sure if the tipping gives them a new scent or possibly screens other odors like glues or my human scent. I've used liquid scents like slab sauce and got the same results.

If they can smell it they don’t care. I used to do the Super Glue thing and my catch rate never suffered. You may have seen...or heard of Ed....a rather tall guy full of gray hair that only fishes for trout using the Trout Magnet. He regularly has many days of 150 trout per day. Travels all over the states just fishing for trout. He is in the middle of one of his 90 day trips out west trout fishing. I’m sure he will be in your neck of the woods on his way back home and will hang around there for several weeks. He does the Super Glue and it sure hasn’t hurt his catch rate. I just change out the TM when it needs it. I used to get frustrated from having to change it out so often but I just came to realize that is part of it.

    Regards
