    Default HOA pond equipment recommendation

Ugly stick is here. Also 7’ and feels very whippy. Will be an adjustment to use something so long.

Stopped in WM to drop off a FedEx box, and left with $25 in bobbers. Church tonight, or I’d go try all this new stuff. Tomorrow!

Tried everything new today. The seven foot micro. New bobbers. Pond I’ve only been to once. Daytime fishing, all of my fishing is usually at night.

Caught 14 small bluegill in about 90 minutes. The rod is OK, the tangles a lot. Doesn’t really feel like much more of a fight with it. I discovered that I like thill bobbers, but could never find the right combination to avoid the gut hook. I tried everything. The circle hook ended up in a guy, and most of the time the jig hook would end up getting robbed.

    I hate turtles.

Great way to relax. I’ve had some tough days lately. Name: IMG_7818.jpg

Walmart's selection is very poor. Order these directly from FishUSA:

Smaller bait will help you, too. Try mealworms or wax worms.

Is that the problem? I’m using the wrong size bobber?

It's not just the size. Round bobbers are terrible for indicating bites. That's a big part of the gut-hooking.

He's got the bait in his mouth. You just don't know it until it's too late.

That is exactly why I went to both smaller round bobbers as well as the thills. The thills gave a great indication, but I had multiple gut hooks that were instant fatalities.

I put the #6s back in the box and tried Aberdeens. I had instant success, immediately followed by a gut hook. The jig hook completely eliminates gut hooks, but had a ton of misses.

I will say that today was quite the extreme for gut hook fatalities. However I had a similar experience last time I came to this pond.

Sad as it is, I had better luck with good hook sets with my original sped stick!

All Thills are not created equal. Most are garbage. I know for a fact that Mick Thill was ashamed his name was on them.

The Thills I linked to at FishUSA are a special type called a "waggler". They're the best floats you can buy in the US.
