Default Paring Sienna 1000 FG w/ Shakespeare Micro Series 7' UL ?

    Hi folks,

I haven't fished much at all in the last several years (for a number of reasons), but am getting back into it and in need of upgrading some tackle. I'm seriously considering the above combo for casting 1/64 & 1/32 Jigs on 2# mono for BG.

My problem is, due to a tackle shortage here currently I'm not able to pair this combo up in a store to feel how it balances.

Are any of you guys running the Sienna 1000 FG on a Shakespeare Micro Series 7' UL, and if so does it balance well? Do you like the paring?

I'm going to be using this rod, but am open to other reel suggestions,
however, I'd like to stay in the same price range as I'll be puting together a few new outfits.

Appreciate any input you might have to offer.

    YB

I think you'll be fine. I have used that setup(light not UL) and I had no issues.

I knew someone on another forum who used that same combo as a trout rod. She was slaying brookies left and right with it.

    You'll be pleased with it.

    Thanks guys.

I figured it would probably pair up ok, but always leary of ordering something that I can't handle first so thought I'd ask here.

Now if I can only locate a couple of these rods in 7' UL. They seem to be as scarce as Hen's teeth at the moment.

Did you use it for Crappie or Gill's? Was wondering if the Light model might be a little stiff for BG, as that's what I'll mainly be using it for. Just curious as I haven't been able to handle either model yet.

    Thanks,

I'll use it for gills if I'm fishing water with decent crappie and/or bass. It's doesn't seem be to stiff to me. I fish one pond that holds a lot of 8" + gills and largemouth bass up to 2 lbs and I use a Sam Heaton SS light rod and the Shakespeare light rod there all the time ,no issues

The UL might balance better with 500fd

Thanks, I'll look into some of them. Never used any of the 500 size reels before, but will be fun checking them out as another option. Appreciate the input.

Major fishing tackle shortages right now.

Walmart normally stocks the rod you want but our stores are still cleaned out.
