Micro Series Spinning Rod | Shakespeare(R)

Should always be in stock there and for $20 regardless the length. (I prefer 6' 6")

Do yourself a favor and use 8# test braid. So much easier casting light jigs long distance than mono, excellent hook sets and strike feel at any distance, little abrasion, no memory, etc. I even use it on my Daiwa spincast reel.

Appreciate the info. Which braid are you using? I prefer a 6'-6" rod as well, but Shakespeare doesn't seem to offer a 6'-6" in UL Micro Series on their site, which is why I'm going with 7'. They do list a 6'-6" light though, but I will be using it primarily for BG so would prefer the UL. In any event they are listing them as unavailable until 8/30/2020 so guess I'll have to wait a while for one. Thanks again for the info.

I have the 7' Light version. Bends quite nicely with gills and crappies. Handle bass well too. My guess is that the UL might be too whippy but some like the whippy rods.

The 6/6 light action is great with light lures ! UL is okay except when bass over 1.5 lbs slam my lure and drive into heavy weeds. Open water no problem with braid and with a well set drag.
KastKing on Ebay is the best braid I've used at the best price. On Ebay 8#/2 diam is $11 for 327 yds. Power Pro is $16 on Amazon and IMO not as good. Both free s/h. I use it on spinning and spincast reels.

Yeah, I'm hoping that's not the case with the UL. Sure wish I could handle both the UL & L. Not sure if Walmart will even carry them again so will probably have to order online. But for $20, if I do order the UL and find it too whippy no biggie, I'll just place another order and get the Light.

At $20 each, why wouldn't you order both and save the shipping and waiting from a separate order? Can never have too many poles to choose from, even if you end up switching the reel from one to other for a while.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Good point. I'll probably end up doing just that once they're back in stock.

I really like this Diawa J8 braid. It feels smoother than most other braids I've used. Casts like a dream. Ain't cheap but braid lasts a long time, so I find it worth it.

I was finally able to locate a couple of the Shakespeare Micro Series rods, so I ordered 1 each of the 7' light & 7' UL.

It will be nice to be able to compare them.

I would have preferred 6'-6" rods but they don't offer one in the UL. They do in the Light version, but were out of stock.

So it'll be two 7 footers for now.

I appreciate everyone's help with the input.
