Yeah, same here. Went to several today, shelves and rodracks were nearly bare. Fishing dept.'s are now looking like the grocery store shelves were during the first few weeks of the pandemic. Don't believe I've ever seen a fishing tackle shortage like this in my lifetime. Hope supplies start getting back to normal soon, for everyone's sake.

I'm not even seeing them on Walmart's website. Hope they will still carry them again in the future.

I've caught tons of bluegills (as well as crappie and bass) with the Micro Series 7 foot light rod this year. Works like a champ. I have a 1000 size reel on it but it's a light one, 5.7 oz. Very light, fun to use rig.

Appreciate the info. Wow, that is a light reel, what brand is it?

The rig you describe will do fine. Being light action I find that the 1000 series is a good match. For ultra light the 5’6” and a 500 works very well also. My favorite rod for jig and float is the micro series in 6’6” with a 1000 series reel. I’ll be using it in the morning. My favorite 2lb mono is Stren crappie hi vis, all things considered.

Thanks skeetbum, appreciate the info. I'll be throwing jigs and without float most often. I just rigged one reel with 2# SOS but may need to go with Hi-Viz on the next one. Seems I could see this 2# mono MUCH better before my several year hiatus from fishing

My problem is, due to a tackle shortage here currently I'm not able to pair this combo up in a store to feel how it balances.

Are any of you guys running the Sienna 1000 FG on a Shakespeare Micro Series 7' UL, and if so does it balance well? Do you like the paring?

I'm going to be using this rod, but am open to other reel suggestions,
however, I'd like to stay in the same price range as I'll be puting together a few new outfits.

Appreciate any input you might have to offer.

Yep, shortage...I ordered 5 Shakespeare Micro Series 6.6 from Dicks sporting goods a couple months ago, and they only had four.I guess I contributed to the shortage...Lol

I find myself using the 7' ultra light Microlite pretty much all the time with 4# GAMMA ICE clear (.15mm) 1/64 black jig head and 1" or so white or black Itty Bits tails. Perfect for sunfish. Also for crappies, but surprisingly a whole lot of fun on smaller game fish such as 1-2# bass and hammerhandle pike that also show up from time to time. I think I have 6 or 7 pike on the tiny baits so far this year. The Shakespeare size 20 Contender is a pretty nice little reel at a weight of 0.6526 lb. I always liked the former black/bronze Alphas 225UL but they are now ancient history. Current Alpha models are anti-reverse only and that is trash.
For me they don't any of them strike the little baits so much as they simply "sip" them in, all fish biting very similarly but showing their true nature once the hook gets set. So far all but one of the pike were hooked on the edge of the top lip; so only one cutoff, which is really amazing for pike.
