I have been trying the Bison colored trout magnets on a 1/64 trout magnet head here in Florida for bream And haven’t had any luck. I put on a 1” black grub, or a beetle spin and I catch a bunch. How do you all fish your trout magnets??

I slowly hop it on the bottom or a slow steady retrieve.But I always take a slip float with live bait, because that's guaranteed fish.lures are just for the challenge of fooling the fish.

I am constantly twitching the rod tip as I do a very slow retrieve. I get the TM going in a rhythmic cadence. I have twitched for so long I literally cannot fish any other way. Many cast out and do a slow steady retrieve.

I twitched along the bottom yesterday with good results.

I have been using a drop-shot 1-2 ft off the bottom. Also 8 ft under a slip cork. Reel it in a foot or 2 to bring it up then stop to let it fall again. Catch plenty both ways

I like the curly tail or the slider grubs due to being able to fish them slower on a larger head . I tend to fish the magnet to fast unless on a roadrunner head . I can feel the 1/32 better than the 1/64 . Most likely need a more sensitive rod you guys use . Curly tails allow me to use a 1/64 (no blade ) When they do not want a 1/32 road runner . Most of my bream lakes have grass/moss issues but pretty good fish so staying out of vegetation is a factor for me . On a clean lake a pan magnet on a 1/64 and a split shot would be great . One lake a fly rod is the choice of equipment or a pole and quill as it is really tough to find and opening but the fish love it .

I thought this would be a good place to share my video. Tried the Trout Magnet for the first time a few weeks ago and was impressed by it. Wasn't able to get any bluegills or redears on it like I wanted to, but the little largemouths loved it. Also will have a few more videos about the Trout Magnet coming out in the next few weeks. I love this thing. Just cast out and a steady retrieve close to the bottom with a few small twitches of the rod every now and again seems to do the trick.

As Alphahawk said, the line will be the main factor when it comes to the casting distance. Even small changes in diameter, e.g. going from 0.16 mm to 0.15 mm, will give you a noticeable difference. Another important factor is the type of line used, so braid and mono should not be compared based on their diameters.

There is a lot going into the contribution of the rod to the casting distance. Not just the length, but the number of guides, their diameter, and placement, to name a few factors. That is assuming the same power and action when comparing multiple rods. But the rod itself will generally have significantly less impact than the line. That physics of it is more nuanced than it seems to be...
