    Default Trout/Panfish Magnet Questions

Caught about 20 or 30 bluegill this morning from the bank casting out to some cover. Some were pretty decent size for the local lake, 8-9". Maybe a 10" or two. I could do better if I could get out to some deeper water. They were fat.

Whats the difference in the Trout and Panfish magnets? I've been using the panfish magnet, but don't know why.

Also, what am I going to need to do to get more distance out of these 1/64 oz jigs? My little Fenwick UL and Quick Microlite with 2lb SOS gets me about 30 or 35 feet and runs out of steam. May try my 7' rod tomorrow, but doubt that's going to help much. Will I see much more distance with one of those Leland TCB rods? I'm too clumsy and too cheap to got the JDM route.

    Thanks guys.

Panfish magnet jig head has a longer hook.

    1) Use a 1/32 oz head. I do that a lot.

    2) Try thinner line. Stren Crappie mono in 2# is good, and so is Trilene XL in 2#.

I use a small #7 split weight, you can throw a lot further and sink quicker.

A reel with a bigger diameter spool may get you more distance along with all the other suggestions.

Are the bodies the same size across the Magnet line?

I've got a Mitchell 314 with a large spool. I may give it a try. Thanks.

Good question and some fine answers, i have always wandered the same thing about the magnets.

The jig hook is a little longer, I can get 50 feet with a panfish magnet and Berkley fireline crystal 2 lb line. Also if you use them in tandem you will get much more distance.

The longer rod will help a lot. I use my 7' ul for just that combination although I tend to use smaller tails. I use my 5' ul rods for 1/32 and the 7' for 1/48 or 1/64.
