Did you know that the trout magnet 1/64 jighead with a trout magnet on it actually weighs 1/32oz. I have actually weighed them.

My longer Shakespeare Microlite rod at 7' reaches farther for me out to the distance he is looking for using 1/64 oz and 0.15mm GAMMA ice line. I cannot reach that distance with my 5' St Croix Triumph UL rigged the same way even with1/32 jig heads, but with the 7' and 1/64 it is normal. So I maybe cheat a little using .15 mm GAMMA ice line because it is a bit softer and lays better on the spool better than their 2# Polyflex also at .15mm, but then I also only use Shakespeare Alpha reels, too, and still get the distance he is looking for. The longer the rod the greater the angle and so the more power it builds (and the faster the rod tip moves). Simple physics that I use on every outing.

Right, I didn't get any more distance going from a 6-1/2 ' rod to 7' rod with a TM.

Yeah I knew that. When my nephew and I pointed that out to the owner of Trout Magnet he went and weighed them and he too was surprised. If you will do an internet search you will find that the vast majority of US market jig heads weigh more than the stated weight.

The 7' UL rod gives me about 15' extra distance over my 5' UL. The extra two feet gives something like 140% more leverage, which allows fishing the tiniest baits on the very light line needed to get a decent cast. That is using a line with a virtually identical diameter what the original poster was using, .15mm versus .16mm.
The difference between a 6 1/2 and a 7 foot rod would of course be much less, perhaps nearly negligible.
I do not fish Trout or Crappie Magnets although I carry some of them and their jig heads in my kit. I fish straight ball head jigs with and without the reverse tang, tipped with one of a variety of plastic tails almost exclusively.

Yes, I had read that previously here on CC. That combo casts very well with the TSS. I had no trouble on the creek yesterday reaching my targets. SOwbug was the winning color for what I call the “Trifecta” - smallies, crappie, and pans. My first of the season.

I believe the TM jig head alone weight about .7 gram while 1/64oz from trout slayer kit weight at 0.6 gram go figure. If I want distance I upgrade to 1 gram jig head #6 hook and get a little more distance about 50’. As alphahawk mentioned line is important key to cast light lure. Ever since I use Nanofil 4 and 6 lb line I get a little more distance compare to same diameter braid.
