I already have the Legalis. I just want a shallow spool. I have not been able to find one for sale.

On the other hand, the Piscifun sells separate/stand-alone shallow spools for their Carbon-X 1000, 2000 and 3000 reels. And it's a mere $14. Why can't Diawa?

Is this not the same reel with the shallow spool? Says it holds 70 yards of 4lb Nylon, plenty for Panfish

Available for 94 bucks and free shipping...

Piscifun obviously does a better job of utilizing slave labor.

It's not about labor. I'd pay more for the Diawa spool. They don't appear to offer it, even though they put them on the 1000S. My guess is that they don't see a large enough market in the USA.

As for OP's question, 1000 is as low as I go these days. Most of my reels are 2000 size.
The one linked is the Legalis LT, which has 5+1 bearings. The Regal LT is 9+1. I think Daiwa is missing the crappie boat in the US market.

I can buy a shallow spool for my 50 year old Mitchell 309 but not my brand new Diawa Legalis.

The Mitchells were ahead of their time.

I prefer a 1000 size. Putting some old mono backing solves the line capacity issue.
