    Default Hot Diggitty Dogs

Seriously, hate to admit that being north of 50 years on this earth and I have never used Hot Dogs for bait for any species of under water inhabitants....until today. Ketchn has of course been catching them on a jig head tipped with the Bar S Bites, but he can catch a fish in a bath tub with a bar of soap so I do not even try to compare my skills with his mastery. Anyway, after a wonderful day of grand baby hijinks I grilled some hamburgers and hot dogs, and yep you guessed it reserved one sacrificial Weenie to feed to the fish early Sunday morning.

So up early and bait readied, it was on, and I mean dang on.

These fish are hungry anyway, usually very cooperative, and obviously fans of the Weenie!

One right after the other, as soon as I could get the hook baited, they were in the boat getting their click on the clicker and some even made the photo cut. I did a Slab Sauce comparison, and two casts in a row with the Sauce only produced fish, and two casts baited with the dogs also produced two fish. Even Steven the two were. Trout Magnets were being shredded, so I changed to a Lunkerhunt Spade Grub, the plastic is a little more durable. My goal this morning was some bigger shell crackers, and I hoped the hot dog would help. Alphahawk says that Red Ears like a little meat, and a sliver of formed pork chicken and beef and what ever else is in the dogs does resemble their natural fare, so why not?

A young un hit me up in the normal ShellCracker spot, and then the big fish of the morning fell to a piece of Weenie also, and gave the Finetail a nice bend.

From 7am until 8:45 I clicked in 42 Panfish, mostly Gills and Crackers and at least 35 were caught on the small plastics tipped with a chunk of Bar S best. It works, I never doubted the Outlaw in Texas, and in VA little stomachs may be fuller but the lips are definitely sorer! Stay safe out there.

Nice write up... so sad you didn’t get a visit from Mr. Whisker’s using those dogs I know you all enjoyed your trip and that was some pretty good catching in a short amount of time!

When I was about 12-13 yrs old, my father was an Army NCO stationed at Ft Benning. I used to follow a creek behind family housing down to the Chattahoochee, where a small waterfall fell off the bluff down to the river 20 feet below, and a huge Caltalpa tree hung over the river. I caught so many eating-size catfish there using hotdogs I snitched from the fridge, we ate catfish twice a week. One day I hooked a huge one, my biggest ever, and I knew it would pop my line if I tried to pull it up the bluff. Along down the river came two guys in a boat, and I hollered at them. They came over, netted my fish, and DROVE AWAY WITH IT. I was crushed and speechless. They they turned around, came back laughing, and said they were just messing with me. They tied some rope to my line and I was able to pull the line up the bluff, and then the fish. TRUE STORY
