    Default Just 8’s

Strawberry Moon, Seventeen, Hot July Moon...not the correct month but the action was indeed hot on this Strawberry June Moon.

Named for the Wild Strawberries that will ripen this month, the old Orb is filling and it just so happens to coincide with the Gills getting their groove on. Fought wind, rain showers all day, and with light braided line, 1g jig heads, small plastics and high graphite sticks, it was a chore to say the least. Spot lock and SI would be nice. Numbers and fun factor were up, size was just average, mostly 8 inch Gills scored on various baits. One thing different today was what I was tipping the TM with.

While splitting wood this Winter and Spring I found these Grub worms embedded in the bark of some Oak, collected them as I came across them and put them in a vial and froze. I ended up with a coupe vials full and upon discovery by the wife I was reminded to take them with me and they would not be allowed to return. Results, Gills loved them! Seemed like there was a certain smell associated with these morsels and they could not stand it when the bait hit the water, it was a bite.

Not many on water pics, I did dig my phone out at lunch, Smoked Salmon and Vienna Sausages, fare of a fisherman.

When the sun finally came out I stopped on the way in and shot a few docks, and they were home also, just not much size on the Specks either.

The clicker read 23, and 46 fillets are destined for the freezer. Mainly 8’s today, but that’s ok, I enjoy fishing for the size fish that are in my waters....no matter what the tape measure says.

Nice fish. And the grub color reminds me of the TM mealworm color.!

Nice looking fish. I've never heard of using grubs from under tree bark before - wonder if they are some sort of beetle larvae? Use to love it when the horseweed worms would be available at the end of summer.
