    Default Weenie episodes

What ? You might think you know what the best bait for bluegills is , you might have what you consider the secret weapon . you might use maggots , red wigglers , night crawlers , mealworms , crickets ,and the list goes on , Corn , crappie bites , crappie nibbles and etc etc etc .
But if you aint never tried weenies you best get you some and dice them up into tiny 1/4 inch pcs and toss them at some bluegill sometime . I am flat out amazed at how much they like them . the best part is they are ridiculous stupid cheap at 1 dollar for 8 bar s brand in these parts . and a package will likely last you the entire summer .
So off we went ,told the owner of the company, myself and my right hand man needed to go ketch fish and asked him if he wanted some bluegill ….
you see he is an old Alabama farm boy and flat out loves whole bluegill so I said and if you want I will bring you some …..man did his eye sparkle when I said that ….he said …
    YES ….. see you tomorrow
off we went to the bluegill races and hammer we did , now mind you I also ketched a small bass and we got a few catfish as well , but the target species before and after we ALSO whacked the crappie right good in between took a right fair beat down.
They ran from around 7 to about 9 inches and man did we have some fun in the shade playing with them . Good times no doubt and an ice chest with a mess of them in it .
    KABOOM is the word
p.s. many thanks to my good friend Ez for taking us out on a crappie boat ride and allowing us access to them there bluegill on his boat dock before and after

this visit we used 1 32 number 6 and 1 64 number 8 jigheads and just dropped it in the water or pitched it towards the shore and slow retrieved it off the bottom . floats work real good as well there , but I was not in the float mode , maybe next visit .
the larger bluegills seemed to be close to the rocks and close to the bottom .

I am going to try this next time I am out, have always heard about using hot dogs and salted shrimp for Gills. I do enjoy experimenting and fishing, so why not do both.

I tried the salted shrimp thing at 3 different sunfish locations and can count on one hand the total number of fish that bit it ?
Don’t know why but it ain’t what they want in these parts for sure .
