Thread: Trout Magnet TSS first Impressions

Sounds like the older Daiwa SS 7000 reels have different reel seat specs than newer spinning reels. I mounted a Shimano Sedona with 3lb test on my son's TSS and he was making decent casts with a 1/32 oz jig up to 50ft.

The TSS is a great deal, if you break the tip Trout Magnet will send you a replacent upper for $9.95 (probably more now).

If you watch Randy's video, another great feature of the TSS he points out is the Airwave guides by American Tackle. Everything I've read is very positive on those guides and they do seem to increase casting distance with light lines. I plan to buy another one for myself for packing and small creeks, the TSS is alot of rod it's price.

Yea for the price you can beat it. If it breaks you don’t have to cry. Fished it again today and was throwing beetle spins as as as I wanted.

It takes a stiff or fast tip to flick the light jigs out their, but the rod curve should be somewhat UL. That is a problem for the rod making people. Use it and see how it does with a nice bream, it should bend and feel great to the hands and arms. I have used real super UL poles that bend so much on the throw, you can get hooked on your back or neck. That is bad. Please enjoy!!!!!

It is simply a very nice rod for the money. Light, enjoyable and the little guys feel great on it. Tough to go wrong with it. I bought a spare just in case.

I bought mine to fish trout magnets and it does that really well with the 2# SOS line. I like the line really well BUT its a little tough for me to see with these 67 year old eyes. wish it was his vis. The rod is one of the better rods I have.

TSS? what is that?

TSS is short for Trout Slayer Series Ultra Light. The Trout Slayer can be bought online from Leland’s Lures, very reputable tackle company based up in north Arkansas. They also make the Trout Magnet, and Crappie Magnet jigs that are talked about quite often here on Cdc.

My take on the rod is similar to yours. I’ve not used it every which way but I like it. I have it spooled with 3lb area Meister and use it mostly with beetle and in line spinners,and they’re a good mix for it. A little long for the tight quarters I fish a lot but I usually cast it til it becomes cumbersome. Good rod for the money and within its parameters.
