I’m with Ketchn, all things aside, it’s a nice fish. All of the varieties have a distinct personality, notably the shellcracker and red bellies. Attitude issues. Never seen one with a red eye though.

Almost all I catch out of a lake I have access to have red eyes. No northern strain bluegill in the lake....all copper nose.

Never caught a copper snout, but they are pretty fish, no matter what their lineage

I think this is mostly a regular strain bluegill and it has some red in its eyes .
I think I read somewhere about some sunfish species getting red in their eyes when they are in breeding mode ?
