    Default New G Loomis UL

I have been searching for a new rod and contemplating a JDM but have been totally satisfied with the Loomis I have so when I saw one for sale at a local retailer I jumped on it. 6’ 6” GL2. Rated for 4# 1/16 which works for me since I mostly float fish or throw 1/16 size. Looking forward to seeing how it fish compared to my 7’ IMX. I put a Shimano Sahara 750 on it till I pick out a new reel.

Should be a load of fun. Never owned a G-Loomis rod but I sure am envious of those that do. I've been looking into getting an ultralight action for a little while. Always preferred light action in the old days because I could actually cast better with a little stiffer profile. I imagine things are different these days with the very thin high modulus graphites.

I was tempted to buy a JDM rod but instead decided to go with what has proven for me. Plus I don’t baby my equipment and wanted a warranty. I bought a used 7’ UL IMX loomis at least 15 years ago and it is still my number one rod for trout panfish crappie and white perch. That rod cost me $100. It’s listed at $325 new now. Yikes just couldn’t bring myself to spend that much for a second rod. The local store was closing out Loomis rods and I picked this one up for $175.

    Nice rig.

I love Loomis rods - for bass. Never had a UL, or even seen one.

A warning: Don't ever fish with a Tict rod. Trust me. Don't!

Very nice, enjoy the new toy. Handled one that was almost $400 in a shop about ten years back or so. I carefully put it down before they charged me for looking at it. Maybe I’ll get up off my wallet one day.

Well I found out today that not all rods are created equal. Finally got to fish the new rod today and while it casted well and seemed sensitive enough the feel just wasn't there for me. I put it side by side my other Loomis and while they were similar there was still differences that I think resulted in the totally different feel. Grip was much thinner but what I think contributed the most difference in the feel was the reel seat position. It was much father forward.

I've handled the GL2's and was not that impressed with them. They're noticeably different from the upper-end rods. I also disliked the handles which seemed much too long for a UL rod.
