    Default A Few Gills

It is finally getting time in my neck of the woods for the Gills to show up shallow for the season. Armed with the Triple Cross and braid, I was ready for the Bass yesterday afternoon and found the Gills. Snapped a few pics, enjoyed the ride of my warm water targets, and released everyone to swim again another day.

Highlights of the trip included an 8+ inch specimen. Put the TC away in its safe padded case and stayed after dark to try for some other species on the lighted floater.

Fun as it is, the snakes, bugs, and poor night vision sent me home before 11pm. First Spring Full Moon is coming, get out there and start checking for the cruising Cricket Crunchers.

Nice trip STM! What are you tipping the trout magnets with? Is that a maggot?

Here is my second favorite morsel to tip the TM with. Made by Lunkerhunt, these are very durable and packaged in a great little snap top container that slips into your pocket nicely. They do not have the smell (scent) that the Berkeley stuff does, but they are packaged dry, not wet, and will NOT leak all over stuff once the container is open. They do not come in the bright Chartreuse colors the Berkeley stuff does either. I bought this container over a year ago, it has gotten quite a bit of use and mileage, and you see what is left. They are available at some Walmart’s, have seen a full line of Lunkerhunt products in the VA stores. Try them, I do like them a lot and appreciate the less mess.

Here are the Lunkerhunt products I have used. I am not sponsored or affiliated with them so no paid plug, just experiences relayed. The other color of the Larvae is great for clear waters. My daughter lives in Lynchburg VA and the little lake behind their house can get super clear at times, and that Spade Grub tipped with the off white larvae is a killer on the Panfish. The Bone Grub has caught plenty of WB and Crappie in TN creeks for me. The Mayfly is a little bit long for a typical Panfish jig, so I cut the first segment or two off to shorten it down and catch Gills on it in the creeks. Just an FYI of my usage. I have some of the May bugs but haven’t had a ton of luck with them.
