    Default Got on Some Shellcrackers!

Took the afternoon off and went looking for redear beds with a buddy of mine. It didn’t take us long before we found one and we did it the old fashion way, with out sonar (my buddies just quit working). We ended up catching 22 redear from the same bed. The bigger males were literally in less than a foot of water and the smaller females were out a little deeper. The biggest one was a little over 10”. I attempted to fish all kinds of jigs where they were but had very little luck. Too much structure and algae in the water. We resorted to drowning some red wrigglers and it was on. We also caught some pretty good bluegill for Lake Conway but the focus was redear, so we left them be in search of the crackers. It was a great day! I really needed it. We let all the fish go, in hopes that another angler won’t find the bed and we can go back for more action later in the week. I used the MC triple cross for jig fishing and the Lelands ultra light for worm fishing. I couldn’t bring myself to work up a JDM rod. My buddy thought that was funny!

That was a good day. I’ll take some of those fillet size crackers anytime. Vacation next week will get me some river time and I hope to find some myself. Might have to get some worms for the first time in recorded history.

Excellent catch. Those dark Ears look like the ones I used to catch out of lower South Carolina. Fun on the TC I bet!
