    Default Damaged Rod from Plat

I have been waiting with great anticipation for the Major Craft Finetail Banshee that I ordered a couple of weeks ago and it finally came it today. Unfortunately it was damaged. The first guide (largest one) was smashed and the torzite insert was crushed into several pieces. The bad news is that my secretary signed for the package before I could look at it. The package was a very rigid plastic tube and the rod and sleeve were bubble wrapped. The rod looked very secure in the package. However, there was a slight crease line on the package. Regardless I don’t think the package was smashed enough to damage the rod. I have reached out to Plat to find out what to do. When I was in the process of doing this, I noticed on the shipping email that it said the following:

1):Please be sure to check whether the package has a damage
before carrying out a receipt sign.

2):Regardless of whatever the package does not have a damage, please check contents together with carrier.

3):Please refuse receiving, if contents are damaged.
And please file a complaint to carrier.

    4):And please contact us immediately.

Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to do any of that while the letter carrier was at my office. Has anyone else had an experience like this with Plat? It almost looks like the guide was damaged during packaging but I can’t imagine that they would knowingly ship a damaged rod. I have reached out to Plat and sent them these pictures. Any advice? Honestly I am sick to my stomach about this. Hopefully I don’t get hosed. It would be the end of my JDM adventure.

Bummer! My sympathies, dude. I'm sure they will make it right. Is the tube bent where the damaged guide is? Forklift tracks?

I would think they will make it right.

I've ordered and received only 2 JDM rods and they were packed in stout tubes. I did instruct my wife and son beforehand not to sign if the package was damaged.

On this side of the pond I've ordered rods from US companies and most of them arrived in crushed cheap cardboard boxes but so far all of them were undamaged.

Good luck, I think they will make it right for you. Remember you have some protection thru PayPal and Visa.

I hope they stand up and make it right. Like many others I’m paying attention to the outcome as I’ve never dealt with any of these folks.

Hate hearing that. I don't have a clue how they will handle this as in the 8 years of ordering from them I've never received anything damaged. I doubt very much Plat would have put that rod in there like that and they have been selling to folks in the USA...and the world.....for years. If they had any complaints over at tackletour I never heard about them. Of course none of that helps you. Did you pay with PayPal? If so that solves your problem no matter what Plat may or may not say. I think most credit cards have the same protection on receiving damaged goods. Is the blank damaged? If this does not get resolved to your satisfaction...and there is no damage to the blank....you can get a new Torzite guide and have a rod guy put it on. I know that is not what you want to hear just trying to cover all bases here. I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

    Default Damaged Rod from Plat

Thanks for the responses guys. I will wait to hear what Plat says. Yes I did use PayPal. If I have to go this route, how does it work? Do I contact PayPal and describe what happened?

Randy - the blank looks fine, as far as I can tell. I had considered having someone fix it but I think I would rather have a new rod or my money back. We will see what Plat says.

Thank goodness for that! Yes just contact PayPal. I have had a couple of rods that needed new inserts and I just ordered the whole guide itself and I had a rod guy replace them...can't even tell which one. Don't let this sour your experience with JDM gear. I know it sucks but you did all the right things...used a known good store...paid with PayPal. In the end it will work out. Thank goodness for PayPal!
