Sorry to hear about all the drama that you have to endure when you just want what you pay for. There is another option, and I just put it out there in case of a worst case scenario. Get a hold of Mudhole and buy the replacement guide, and have it installed. I’m a rookie rod builder but I’m excellent at copying something I can see. I know I’m not alone in that too. It would be more money out of pocket but you would get the rod to fish with in the end. Hope it works out for you.

I am wondering if a possible solution would be for Plat to pay for the broken guide and insert to be repaired by a local rod builder? I don’t know how much this would cost, but it has to be cheaper than a full refund. Really I just want to be able to fish this rod. It looks like it will be a blast when the sunfish start to bed up. Hopefully I can resolve this by then. I will give Plat until mid week next week and then I will go the PayPal route. I started to file a claim with PayPal this afternoon but decide to be a little more patient.

The Torzite guide that size is around 10-15 bucks. A good rod builder won’t take long to get the old one off and new one on. I would find a well known rod builder. If you want to keep the rod this is the route I would go. If you want your money back I would file a claim. I think part of the issue here is Plat has no more of those rods....and they are also out of production. If there are any on eBay they will be around $450. It’s a bad deal no doubt but I think your best bet...if you want to keep the rod is to have the new guide put on. The good side of that is since you have the rod you can wait to see how Plat...PayPal.....the post office...all work out.

    Regards

I stand corrected. It looks like Plat has some Banshee if you do a search on their website. Hopefully they will replace it. Wondering why they don’t have them listed under trout rods?

Yep, that’s how I found it is by doing a search. Not sure why it isn’t just a regular listed item. They may not have very many left or something like that.

Update - this is what Plat sent me this morning. It sounds like they want to help with the issue but there seems to be a breakdown in communication about the process of submitting an insurance claim and damaged package claim. The USPS is telling me one thing and the JP is telling Plat another. I am a little concerned that this may take a long while and I will miss my opportunity to submit a claim through PayPal. I watched several videos online about how to replace a broken rod guide and my supervisor has built several fly rods. I tried to look up the specific part number for the bottom titanium guide with a torzite insert and I could not figure out which one it was. If it didn’t cost too much, I would probably just repair the rod and move on with slaying fish this spring. I may ask Plat if they would furnish me the correct replacement guide and insert and see what they say.

    “Dear Matthew Schroeder.
    Thank you for your message.

Actually, the way the US post is wrong. They have to receive it first otherwise Japan post cannot do anything.
However, we understood you made an effort to submit the damage report so we will ask Japan post to help you so please do not ship the rod back to us yet.
We will infor you as soon as we receive any news from Japan post.
Please note that they need kind of long time to investigate your parcel since the parcel has left Japan once.
Than you for your co-operation anyway.
    We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
    PLAT/Iwatsuka”

File the claim with PayPal since it is time sensitive. Japan Post and USPS are not sensitive to any amount of time.

The post office could really mess you up here with the time on a claim with PayPal. Not trying to tell you what to do but I would file claim right away or fix it....or both...you can always cancel the claim if you fix it. It is the Banshee 6 foot SUL correct? I am 99.9 percent sure its a Fuji TKLTG-12H. You should double check...but I am sure that is it. Here is the link to Mud Hole Shopping Here is lnk to Fuji size chart so you can double check.https://www.guidesnblanks.com/files/03-kl-l.pdf Also fire off an email to Plat and ask them the size...but I measured mine and it measures out to size 12H.
