Bob, you’re preaching to the choir here. I just don’t spend the dollars some folks do for the gear. Pitchin a light jig most folks can’t cast 10 feet is my idea of something to do. St Johns River just down the street, I find plenty to do.

I’m getting my spring order for Leyland in sometime after Christmas when the package rush slows down. I definitely want a backup of that rod and lots of other goodies from Jeff.

In a book of fishing stories, I ran across a noteworthy phrase ; " The Law of Discontinued Perfection".
The author came up with it after breaking a favorite rod, then finding it was no longer made.
He explained the phrase as meaning that if you have only one of anything that is perfect for you, if you break it or lose it, you will then discover it was discontinued and no longer available.
However, if you buy a spare as backup, you'll never lose or break the 1st one.
I'm having a bit of that because I broke one of two Berkley rods that I love for jigging spoons, only to find it is no longer made. Now I'm paranoid when I use the one I have left.

Which rod was the Berkeley Ray? I’ve had and still have a few that are noteworthy.

It's a Berkley Bionix. Here's a pic of specs. 1 piece 6"6" medium action. I found on sale at Wal-Mart a few years back and bought 2 of them.

I thought that would be the model. I had 4 bionics and sold two six footers to my nephew and kept two 6’6”, one a baitcaster and the other a spinner but a little heavier than a medium, though it says medium. Gave $50 each for them. Great rods.

I may be in luck. I posted this on our SC page regarding Christmas presents:
On a brighter note my new neighbor had told me he used to tournament fish. He saw me outside and told me to come over, he had something for me.
He took me to a table filled with fishing rods and told me to pick out a few.
These were high dollar rods like Falcon, Lews, etc so I just looked. He realized I wasn't comfortable taking one so he said since I jigged spoons to try this one.
He said the company went out of business so it was no longer made. It had never been used he said.
It was made by Cape Fear Rods in NC and it is incredibly light but with a fast tip and plenty of strength to handle a larger fish. It has a hexagonal shaft which I had only seen on the nicer fly rods.
Anyway I can't wait to try it out.
Maybe he's one of Santa's Elves.
I never heard of Cape Fear Rods, but apparently they made very high end salt and freshwater rods.

And I thought we had it bad!! A stack of rods like that———I wouldn’t be able to work for weeks trying them all out. You have a good neighbor. He doesn’t look like one of Santa’s elves, does he?
