    Default They’re Baaaaack!

Ok so maybe fish do read calendars and follow fishing log books, because the Gills finally showed up in the local creek mouth, right on time. A result of water temps and lake levels is a more plausible explanation, but on cue for last two years, the first week in December means the beginning of catching Panfish in the shallows. First fish, a bruiser of a specimen, stripping drag like a freight train.

A solid 8+in fish, and on the #2lb Red Ester, what fun. This was my second trip with the new line, and no manageability issues were encountered from spool memory or line twist from the previous outing. I like this stuff, it is just so dang small in diameter, almost impossible to see while fishing from the red clay banks in the late evening. Anyway I was grinning like a mule eating sawbriars as I caught fish after fish, almost one on every cast, as they were stacked up in the creek.

All sizes, beautiful colors, and really whacking the Sowbug Trout Magnet, fished on a 1/48 BG Itty Bitty jig head. The #8 hook is relatively sharp and perfect for shallow water. The young folks were back this afternoon slinging plugs for Green Carp, and after a lengthy conversation on UL fishing, they tied on a small rooster tail to a spinning rod and caught a couple White Bass. So did I, as they were stacked in there thicker than the Gills, and have been there for about 3 weeks.

So in 1.5hrs this evening after work I landed 11 Gills, 7 White Bass, a small Spotted Bass and a Largemouth. A great evening, and right at dark I stuck 3 Specks, even one that measured 10+ inches.

Great looking catch and I know a ton of fun. My first encounter with ester line was some from Tict......clear.....and only .090mm diameter. Needless to say that didn’t stay on my reel long....LOL. My son and I were going to hit the catch basin below Center Hill to pull Gills out of that 21 foot deep hole. But the Corp turned on the sluice...ruined our plans. I’m hoping to find some at Nickajack.

    Regards
