Clear skies and cold water
I have not posted in a while, but I been fishing, and it has been slow. I have caught a few, gills and crappie, but not like I would like too. I am thinking it is because the weather has been so clear since the last cold front and the water has not warmed up much, maybe 5 degrees at the most.
I have been fishing deeper places mostly, grass lines in 10 to 12 foot, points and creek channels near banks, but success has been limited.
I have the hummingbirds dialed in pretty good and can see fish down there, but they just want to nibble and not bite.
The few times I have tried shallower there wasn’t much biting there but the little ones.
Any thoughts?

While your looking deep, they may be shallow. Don't limit yourself, to what your seeing on the fish finder.

Bite was slow for me last Thursday and I switched to glitter chartreuse and it was crappie every drop for a few minutes. The trip before they wanted blue ice.

When it’s tough....well...it’s tough. I fished a spot that a week ago held literally a thousand fish. Fished it 2 days back and zero...not even a tap.

I tried to change baits twice but it was just to rough, and if I did not concentrate on holding my spot, in a matter of seconds, I would be several yards off my marker buoy. I don’t have spot lock, so I do it the old fashioned way, stand on the trolling pedal. That however is my next dream upgrade.Originally Posted by DRFISHDUCK

Start by down sizing your baits if they are just nibbling. Slow down the presentation to a molasses pace, and watch your line if possible. Live baits and scent will help also in cold water. Warm sunny days can bring them into shallow waters, as it warms first and if there is wind, let it be your friend as it helps to warm the shallows also.

What Stan said. Either match the local shad size or go small and slow. Braid also helps feel the little things that I missed with mono. If you found em, stay on em.youll figure them out. I found some deep once and were convinced they were crappies. After 45 minutes and 4 catfish and no crappie, I’m sure they were whisker trout. But I figured em out, that’s the point. Get an answer before you move on.
