    Default E. TN Trifecta

Where are the Bluegill? Last year about this time I was sticking said Panfish along with other species of course, but the cricket crunchers usually topped the trip list in numbers and always in fun factor. My foray down the JDM road also started about this time a year ago, and after jumping in with both feet and ending up with a lighter wallet, I am locked and loaded for the Gills. However, fish do not read calendars or log books, and yeah I know there are a slew of other factors involved in fish movements and migrations, but if you do not go fishing for them then how will you know when they show up? Enough talk let’s fish. When I arrived at my favorite creek mouth a vehicle was already there and I found two couples of young folks flogging the waters with their white Magic Duck rods and whopper flopping top water lures. Each young gentleman was trying to teach/impress the ladies with their fishing “prowess”. I set up shop at my favorite spot, leaving them plenty of room to sling their baits in both directions and started casting my UL offerings. 5 minutes in and my drag starts squealing like a stuck pig, getting the attention of the young folks. One couple comes over and watches the fight, asks what I think it is, then is amazed when old Mr. Green fish comes up and jumps.

An epic battle, and the young lady says, let’s fish here beside him. I welcome them to join in the spot but the young man says no, he does not want to crowd me and politely moves on down the bank. Next up, a high flying Smallmouth bursts out of the water on a solid hook set and gives the Corto another workout.

Perfect specimen, but not a Panfish. So now I am thinking about a Micropterus Slam, only need a Spotted Bass to fill out the Trifecta. I change to a Chartreuse Wax worm tippet as the darkness is now coming fast, and one of my least favorite fish dull thumps my fresh bait, Mr Channel Cat.

As Justin on Kayak Catfish (YouTube) says, I hate them things, line slimers. Another Smallie takes the Sowbug Trout Magnet for a ride and comes in for a quick photograph and release.

Skinny but fun, I do not think the Spot is in the cards until literally the last cast. A tick, a hook set then the Triple Play is complete.

Darkness comes, but the Gills do not.

I would say that was a nice day! Same thing happens to me too. Go out looking for big sunfish and only catch bass. I guess that is a bad problem to have every once in a while.
