    Default Been A While

Again, not a Fall fisherman. Our lakes drop about 40ft in the Fall and it makes fishing challenging to day the least. The one saving grace for me is the return of Bank Fishing in the creek mouths for Gills and any other species that may wander up in the shallows. Last couple weeks I have been checking the local watering holes and have found the only species present in any kind of numbers.....Spotted Bass. No length limit and 15/day creel limit the KY Bass are a hoot to catch.

The 6.10 Corto and the Diawa Presso Ltd. spooled with the 3lb. Sunline Ester can handle these drag squealers with ease. They are fattening up for the winter for sure. The Gills have not moved back into the creeks yet, but will soon according to my log book. The creeks are also full of these slimy nasty critters that I foul hooked:

a Gizzard Shad! Unfortunately I had to touch this one to get him unbuttoned and returned to the water, and man you cannot get that slime off fast enough. Just by rinsing my hands off in the lake water I could not shake the smell and sniffed his pungent remnants until I got home and used hot water and lotsa soap. When the water temps cool a bit more, the Gills should return and I will be there waiting to Catch Photograph and Release!

Nice catch! I need to get the Corto rigged for the white bass that should show up soon. I wish I could have kept the Sunline Ester on my reel but I just couldn’t see it. That setup will sure catch you a lot of spots....and a lot of fun.

    Regards

Nice catch for sure... I haven’t fished in a while... I have the 2.5lb sunline and really like my casting distance and the feel of it... I am going to purchase some kind of braid soon to use for tossing spoons for trout... any suggestions on that? Not big on the bright colors but if I have to it will be pink haha...

Nice report STM. Gizzard Shad do have a funk about them. When I snag one, I rub my jig on it. Great scent attractant for shad earring fish!

For the money, the Unitaka Yellow Braid (NightGame) 3lb is the best braid I have used, and will continue to use. I would like to try the Sunline pink PE Light Game line, and I bet it performs as well as it is described. In your clear waters, a fluorocarbon leader will probably have to be used. JDM lines are on all my UL reels now.Name: 208A0122-DD00-415F-B7D1-73749A3A62C0.jpg
