Nice little fighter
I find it odd that for some many years I have managed to ketch here close to DFW just a small handful of red ear sunfish ,maybe 3 or 4 total .
Then all of the sudden I am having one come up in spots I have never seen one ?
This is the third or fourth one in just the last few months in a spot I never seen one before .
anyway here is another golden red gill specimen flying some pretty colors .
pecked my jig and pulled right hard when I hooked it .
Thunk it was small black crappie till it came up .
go figure

They don't reproduce as fast as other bream. Might throw some back. Might not help but surely won't hurt.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can generally count on Paul's vote.
They are great eating and fearless fighters . I target them almost as many days a year as crappie .
Good one Coach !
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Makes you wonder how they spread to different lakes. Only thing I think of is someone put them there. Good fighting fish is good fun.

An invasion of shellcrackers should be a good thing as long as they aren't disrupting some rare local native fish. I don't target the red ears, but I catch enough of them here in north MS and absolutely love them. They have a good average size and possibly taste even better than bluegill.
