    Default Finally Some Fishing Time

I am not a Fall fisherman, never have been. When the Fall semester starts up at work it is very busy and add the fading daylight with hot dry weather, I do not get the chance to fish as much as I would like. A quick trip up to VA to see the grand babies always includes the possibility of time to wet a line, and that I did yesterday before they woke up and started asking for me.

?Gills and Red Ears and all their hybrid offspring we’re up first. I employed the Olympic GraphiteLeader Corto 6.10 this weekend with the 3lb Sunline Ester on the Diawa Presso Ltd, their smallest model designed for Trout. This combination has become my go to for this small lake/pond. I do think the new Majorcraft 6.3 Finetail SUL that Alphahawk has been using would be more suited because the possibility of hooking a large fish is pretty much nil as most if not all of the fish in this body of water are stunted and in dire need of removal. That’s a whole other ball of wax though. I did tangle with some Specks and Green Carp, fun, but not the fight of the Gills and Ears.

It was hot/dry up there like it has been in E TN. Hopefully that will change next week and Fall will be finally here.

That seems like a lot of fun for sure! Glad you got a chance to go for a bit... how do you like your corto?

I really like the Corto, for the money I think it is a very sensitive and capable rod. It is the shortest JDM rod I own, was hesitant to purchase it but now do not regret the money spent. From the boat, it is superb for cast/retrieve for Gills and in close quarters on the bank I actually prefer it to the Triple Cross. The Ester line does shine, but the braid performs well on the rod also, you just get a little eye noise with the braid. If you have the 6.1 I bet it is perfect for the small streams!

I have the 6’1” and the 6’10”. Both are great rods imo. The 6’10” has a bit more backbone. Great rods for the money...

Since upgrading to iPadOS it took me a little bit to figure out how to reply in the app. Congrats on your catch. VA man....who could NOT like a 2018 Corto....LOL. I fished ester for 2 days with no leader.....it worked out pretty darn good landing some KY bass and a few 11 inch shellcracker. I assume you’re getting same heat as me. Only staying on water for a few hours.

    Regards

Very nice trip! Fall early winter is about my favorite time to crappie fish. Easy to find the crappie and most of the crowds on lakes are way thinned out. My favorite morning to crappie fish is the opening weekend of modern fun deer season. I have one of my favorite lakes almost to myself.
