Has anyone had a problem with the tip breaking. I called the company and they said “send it back and we will see how it broke (I caught a 6” crappie on 2lb test when it broke) and may send a replacement”. (I bought the rod in August and this was my second time using). Rod is stored in rod locker when not using. Didn’t get a good feeling about the response. I really like the rod but given I’ve heard they are selling the company maybe not as customer friendly as they should be. I broke a tip on a BnM and told them I wasn’t sure that I hadn’t done something and they sent me a rod tip right away.

Model Trout Slayer Series Rod SKU 17401 ordered 8/5/19.
This replaced the same rod that I lost off of a kayak (not warranty).
I was actually going to order another so I would have two but the person I spoke with didn’t seem interested in my business.

Were you ordering directly from Trout Magnet? Do you know who you talked to? I've always known their customer service to be top notch. As to the TSS....were you boat lifting the fish? Did it break while fighting the fish? I ask these questions as many first time buyers of this rod have never used a rod with high graphite content. I tested this rod a lot. It is a very sensitive rod but best not be boat lifting any fish with this rod. I have had that rod doubled up catching a ton of 15 pound buffalo and it held up fine. That is not to say you couldn't have a gotten a bad rod. Everyone knows that I use all JDM rods....but this rod has impressed me for the rod you get for the price.
Regards
I spoke with a woman, didn’t get her name (not sure she gave out). I was reeling in the fish when the rod broke (turned out to be about 6”). I had 2lb test. The rod I had and dumped off the kayak caught a lot of fish including some bass and white bass no problem. I own about 20 G Loomis rods so pretty good with rod care. I’ve broken rods when I knew it was my fault and never tried to get warranty. As mentioned I broke a BnM 12 footer on a snag and called to buy a replacement tip. They sent me one for free. Just seemed like the person I talked to this morning had no interest in helping other than “send it back and we will decide if we want to replace”. Not sure what happened.
I ordered directly: order #100016910 8/5/19

BTW. The woman I spoke with was not particularly rude, just not friendly or very helpful.

I have used mine quite a bit and haven’t had any issues. I have even let my 9 year old son and clumsy Dad use it and it has survived a good amount of abuse. It could of had a defect through the manufacturing process. I have placed serval orders directly with trout magnet and haven’t had any issues to date. As a matter of fact, I showed up one time unannounced because I was in the area and I got a tour of the facility and a bunch of free jigs and jigheads. Jeff Smith is a top notch guy. I have a feeling that you will be taken care of.

Like I said, I love the rod and had to replace with the one that broke. The first one held up great and I’ve landed probably 500 or so crappie (conservative). Just wanted a little more conversation about the issue. And wanted to order an additional rod...never got to that conversation just send it back and if we want to will ship you a new one, rod tip, not sure but just nothing but ship it back on my dime.

Steve my buddy broke his tip on the same rod by pulling up trying to free a jig from brush.. They sold me a top section for $10. Fit great and he’s back in business. Went directly through Leland lures or trout magnet. I had it ordered and on its way before he was even off the water that day.
That would have been a great thing to have been offered and would have been happy to buy a new tip and another rod, then I could have sent the broken tip back in that package and they could give me a credit if they determined that it was a manufacturing defect. David if you’ve noticed, when I’m snagged, I pull on the line directly by holding the reel arbor so I don’t load the rod. This broke reeling in a fish.
They are great rods, maybe my favorite (why I wanted a second one) but apparently Leland/TM doesn’t want my business.
