an old timer told me it was a monster snapping turtle which I thought was just to scare me , until one day I foul hooked that there monster snapper in the foot and fought with it for half a day to land it . man was I in the news and mean REALLY , the local newspaper came out and took photos and I was the hero for removing that menace from the duck pond and then the local French food place contacted me and paid me what I thought was BIG money for it and even invited me to have a bowl of soup they made with it .
it was VERY tasty and I used to money to buy more tackle of course
    p.s. haven't killed a turtle on purpose
If you caught it today you would have your own reality TV show

Definitely some mean critters. People keep up the the Kardashians. I happen to find the snapping turtle more interesting. Read some place that the Indians used to use them to find drowned tribesmen. An aquatic bloodhound of sorts.
