My go to is Trout Magnets and 1” CB Sliders. I have purchased more expensive/exotic plastics for bluegill but the two I mentioned work just as good, if not better.

Here is the link for the Bob's Jigs page 4 It's the Tiny Stinger 1". He's got some great colors and the tails on them have plenty of motion.

Stinger spike tails and the like are one of the best tail designs for slow retrieves. Flat tail grubs are also excellent. If fish aren't hitting 1 3/4", downsize to 1.5" or smaller, but remember one thing - downsizing isn't always necessary:

    2" flat tail grub:

    1 3/4" Spike tail grub:

    Full size Crappie Magnet:

(note: you might try shortening the CM by one segment only)

Just remember pauses in a very slow retrieve are key to getting hit. (Good jig and hook size BTW.)

Hope you're using a 4# test line even if it's a leader. Light jigs need less line bow than any lure and 8# test isn't going to cut it. I use 8# test/2# diameter braid.

Yes sir, and you can shorten a full size CB slider, and then you have a Charlie B.

Good ideas thanks all, I’ll try to shorten my crappie magnet and CB slider or even some of other crappies plastic I have to about 1-1.25”. Now time to learn how and where to locate them.

Not plastic but a little squirrel tail jig works wonders and it takes a lot of fish to wear one out.

I wish somebody would do a video of two people fishing side by side, one with a hair jig and one with plastic.

Try Gulp Minnows, I use chartreuse 1 inchers. Under a float and a small split shot to keep it down. The gills seem to love em. Once they hit the water it only takes a few seconds for a bite for me at least.

Trout magnet cotton candy "pink/white" used during late spawn. Caught a few 2 & 3 lb channel cats on it the same day - intense using Shakespeare 7.5 ft ultralite with 4 lb mono! Name: 20190814_071709.jpg

Trout Magnets for gills also they have been a good smallmouth bait on Center Hill. Bison, Bulldog, Sow Bug Red and Lime green have been great. Catfish even bite these things.
